Evil Ex Quickplay

Only cards, no tokens. 3-8 people. Ca. 15 minutes.

The first edition of the Evil Ex Game comes with a full ruleset. However, for those of you who want to dive right into the juicy stuff, here are the rules for the Evil Ex Quickplay. You'll only need the Evil Ex cards to play. Consider it the party edition of the game.

the party edition of the game

Shuffle a deck of cards, place them face down at the center of the table, assign a dealer—in true Evil Ex fashion this should be the person who went through a breakup most recently.

The dealer draws the top card and decides if they want to play it or discard it. If they play it, they get 2 minutes to share the best/funniest/most embarrassing story they can think of that relates to the Archetype or Date Scenario on the card.

If they discard it, they must place the card face up on the table for 5 seconds. In these 5 seconds, other players can steal the card and take their own 2 minutes in the limelight (first come first serve!). If no one steals the card, it’s placed at the bottom of the deck and the dealer draws again. The card might come back at the end of the game.

After the first story is spilled, the real battle begins—Evil Ex is a competitive storytelling game, after all!

After the first story is spilled, the real battle begins!

Players can one-up the previous storyteller by stealing the card and sharing their own story. Again, they have a max. of 2 minutes. This can go on and on until A. there are no players left who want to compete in this round or B. all players have had a turn (yep, max 1 story per person per round).

Then we move on to the vote. Every storyteller recaps their story in 1 line and then all players count from 3 to 0 and point to their favorite. That person wins the round. They may add the card to their personal Evil Ex Deck and become the new dealer.

The first player to collect 3 cards of the same type wins the Evil Ex Game!
